Braintree beaten 3-1 in opener

Bury Town recorded an impressive 3-1 win over National League side Braintree Town at Ram Meadow in their opening pre-season friendly. Bury named three trialists in their side with Andrew Cusack, Tom Debenham and Ryan Gibbs all looking to impress. Heavy rain before the start made the pitch slippery but Bury opened the scoring through striker Ollie Hughes (pictured) in the 23rd minute. In the second half Bury took a 2 goal lead soon after the interval when Sam Reed scored and Ryan Jolland surprisingly made it 3-0 to the home side in the 64th minute. Braintree put the Blues under pressure in the final 30 minutes and an own goal in the 68th minute made the scorline 3-1. Iron striker Lee Barnard had the ball in the net with 20 minutes to go but was ruled offside and that was the closest the visitors came to scoring again as Bury ran out 3-1 winners to give manager Ben Chenery plenty of positives in the teams first 90 minutes of pre-season.
