Boss delighted with opening win

Ben Chenery

Bury Town boss Ben Chenery was delighted with his side's opening day thrashing of Aveley at Ram Meadow, especially after the Blues fell 1-0 behind in the opening minute of the game.

Ben said "We had planned and prepared well for the game, and I was very confident going into it, but after the first minute, all of that was undone as we gave a sloppy goal away. It was like going back to last season all over again, but credit to the team, who worked themselves back into the game to lead at half time"

"We were excellent going forward in the second half and Aveley couldn't live with us in the final quarter of the game. We had 3 debutant's on the score sheet and we had players coming off the bench and making a real difference. It was great to see us playing on the front foot and attacking at every opportunity. Alex Steed had an excellent debut in midfield, Ollie Hughes also did fantastically well with his two goals, and Bradley Barber and Ace Howell also scored on their debuts"

"In many ways it was a perfect day for us, 5 goals, several new players making excellent debuts and a great win in front of our own fans. The players know they have now set the standard we are looking for and must carry this on in their performances and their attitudes. It was great to see happy faces around the ground again and the players got a good reception at the end of the game"

Bury will look to build on Saturday's result with a trip to Brightlingsea Regent on Tuesday. Regent got their season off to a good start on Saturday with a 2-1 win at Waltham Abbey. On their scoresheet on Saturday was Lamell Howell, bother of Ace who of course also scored on Saturday. Ben had to say of Tuesday's opponents, "Brightlingsea had a great first season at this level last year, and I think a few sides at this level underestimated them, so they managed to catch a few out. We know what to expect from them however and will prepare in the correct way. They had a good away win on Saturday, but I know they have suffered from injuries pre-season so could be missing a few, but we must carry on from where we left off on Saturday"

The address for Regent's ground is North Road, Brightlingsea, Essex, CO7 0PL.
